Are you a fan of Obagi Clenziderm M.D.?  Me too, but the $90 is hard on the pocket.  Here at XQ, we found a fantastic product that treats our acne just as well at an unbelievable cost savings.

Benzonak 5% lotion 50ml contains - Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzonak 5% lotion 50ml has Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide (BP) is a topical medication for acne. It is available in different forms, including gel, cream, and wash.

Benzoyl Peroxide releases oxygen, killing the bacteria responsible for acne. It also helps to exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin cells and unclogging pores. Additionally, Benzoyl Peroxide can normalize the process of keratinization (formation of skin cells), which may contribute to the development of acne lesions. Benzoyl Peroxide was initially used in the 1930s as a medication for acne treatment. However, it became widely popular in the 1960s as an acne treatment option.

Medical Uses:

  • Treatment of mild to moderate acne
  • Management and prevention of papules, pustules, and blackheads
  • Can also be used in combination with other medications for more severe forms of acne, such as cystic acne
  • Can be used as a spot treatment for individual acne lesions
  • May also be effective in treating folliculitis (inflammation of hair follicles)

Benefits:

  1. Benzoyl Peroxide has both antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it effective against the bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes) and inflammation associated with acne
  2. It helps to unclog pores and reduce excess oil production
  3. Benzoyl Peroxide can also improve the appearance of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (dark spots) caused by acne
  4. It is readily available over-the-counter and does not require a prescription
  5. Benzoyl Peroxide is generally well-tolerated and can be used long-term without causing bacterial resistance

Side Effects:

  • Dryness, peeling and irritation of the skin are the most common side effects of Benzoyl Peroxide
  • Some people may experience a stinging or burning sensation when first using Benzoyl Peroxide
  • BP can also cause temporary redness or discoloration of the skin
  • Less commonly, some individuals may experience itching, swelling, or blisters at the application site
  • Contact dermatitis (skin rash) can occur in those with sensitive skin or allergies to Benzoyl Peroxide
